I have a boy who will be 4. Should I invite friends & family to asme party, or have 2 different parties?

My son's turning 4 and I can't decide if I should have a party w/ just his friends and make it fun and geared towards kids, and then have a quieter party for him w/ just family (grandma, grandpa, et.) What's the norm??

I don't think there is a norm. We've done both.





Do what works for you, your time and your finances and your sanity. Perhaps you can combine the two so that they're both at the same day but as the kids are leaving, the family is coming.





Consider the weather and the space and the number of people. If it's an outdoor party there's no reason they can't be combined but if it's an indoor party it might be a bit noisy for everyone with kids running around.





Ultimately do whatever works!
Reply:Growing up we always had two. One with family, one with friends.
Reply:I would have it in one day and do the quieter part in the beginning that the grandparents and everyone want to be a part of (i.e. cake, ice cream, presents) and then let the kids go outside with the parents and do kid things and the grandparents can either watch or stay in. I wouldn't try to plan two seperate parties for a 4 year old (you will have plenty of time to deal with that when the child is older..lol). Have fun!

Reply:Grandparents sometime find large numbers of youngsters overwhelming. Have a party for his friends and a quiet family get together to include extended family.

Reply:What I would do is to have 2 separate parties. To your son it makes him feel special that he gets to celebrate it twice. 2 parties means: 2 cakes. Twice the presents. Twice the fun! This doesn't have to be regular. Trust me. The older they get the less "birthday party" seems to interest them.
